Meet The Team

Phil Bartley

Phil Bartley, owner and director of GB Charcuterie, started his career in food at Brighton Metropole when he was just 15 years old, since moving up the ladder to head chef and managing restaurants across Brighton. He set up GB Charcuterie in 2016 after looking for something to take the pressure of the kitchen at Hove Place, came up with a pick and mix British cheese and charcuterie option, and has since built good relationships with small producers all over the country, realising there’s a lack of awareness and a high demand for the products.

David is our Cheese Expert at Curds & Whey in Hove. Growing up in Lancashire, he has always had a love for cheese since a young age and has worked in event catering and planning for quite some time now. He previously worked at La Cave a Fromage, in Western Road and which closed in 2019. So, we saw the opportunity to join forces with David to find a fresh start for the cheese shop and the rest is history!

Martyn has recently joined us as our customer service support and looks after our wholesale and retail customers. He has a lengthy background working in hospitality for a most of his life and knows his stuff when it comes to producing pastrami since having his own production company back in the day. Whether it’s general enquiries or advice on pairings and products, Martyn’s your man!

Louise is our social media and marketing manager and has been with us since April 2021. You can often find her taking tasty charcuterie shots and posting them so our socials, getting involved with anything content related and helping all our sites/places we work with their photography and social media. And yes, she’s lucky enough to sample whatever she’s snapping!

Linda, Phil’s Mum is a very friendly face of GBC who’s been with us from the start working in our old shop at Brighton Marina and helping at many different foodie festivals and markets. She now often helps at our warehouse. Despite being our best packer, she has been taking a step back to look after her 2-year-old granddaughter.
